Ellane Chandler

Ellane chandler (she/her/hers)

Not only does Ellane love animals, she also loves to start a good conversation and she loves to watch things grow.  Also fascinated by the concept of salons - holding space for ideas to form and grow - had she been born in an earlier century, she would have delighted in holding space for exciting conversations in a salon and watching the ideas generated emerge into the world.

In 1989, Ellane rediscovered the joy of writing as a student at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. After graduating in 1992, she belonged to a writers' group called the Dancing Goats, named after the coffee shop where they met.  She discovered Story Medicine in 2011 and continued writing through that program, and a year later started facilitating its writing groups and workshops.  Starting in 2013, she participated in Community Choreography (now Story Choreography) performances in Asheville, collaborating with other performers and using original material.  In 2019, she finally got the nerve to produce a one-woman show, Upper Hand, and performed it at the Attic Salt Theatre.  She created and performed two characters, each telling a story about loss and its aftermath.

Just as she loves initiating rich conversations and guiding where they go, she also loves creating characters and watching them come to life and evolve, whether it's on paper or the stage.  Through the facilitation of workshops and classes, Ellane seeks to inspire other creative people as they set out to discover and explore the riches of their own gifts, and help their ideas and stories to grow.
