STORY PARLOR event + workshop marketing
Visit here for a marketing check-list and a drive with Story Parlor logos and marketing assets.
Typically, we see that Story Parlor accounts for (approximately) a third of attendance for both events and classes. As such, we rely on our programming partners and facilitators to assist in a robust marketing campaign to ensure their event or workshop is a success.
On Story Parlor’s end, we will include the program in the Story Parlor newsletter (which reaches over 2400 local subscribers), so long as content is provided at least 3 weeks in advance. We will also list on our online and in-person community boards, and recirculate on social media (see social media considerations below for more details).
Please note, we do not create marketing materials or posters on your behalf. We highly recommend that you create a poster/postcard and bring by Story Parlor to hang on our community board, as well as distributing on community boards across town. We recommend an 11x17 size poster (or smaller). Office Depot and Staples both will print posters cheaply, often with a one-day turnaround time. Canva is an easy tool to create posters and marketing materials.

SOCIAL MEDIA CONSIDERATIONS
IG/FB STORIES | If you are on social media, please consider regular posts/stories and tag @storyparloravl. We will recirculate anything we’re tagged in (to a reasonable degree) in our social media stories.
(Read here for a how-to-guide on “tagging” or “mentioning.”)
IG/FB POSTS | If you are programming a recurring event series, we are happy to “collaborate” on a post (created by you), but will only post photos from our space to our grid (we will not post posters or images of alternate locations).
Event Acknowledgments
To the best of my ability, I agree to program an event/series that showcases a diverse slate of artists.
I agree to share in the marketing responsibilities in promoting this show/series, with the goal of programming “sold-out” event/s. (Capacity is 49 guests; aside from those directly producing/performing, the Event Partner is granted a total of two additional comps, with total comps not to exceed 9 people. All comps must be claimed one week before the event.) Story Parlor is permitted two comps in addition to any staff/volunteers working the event.
I understand that my deposit will be forfeited in the event that 20 or fewer tickets are sold, and/or if the decision is made to cancel the event due to low ticket sales.
Unless otherwise agreed, Story Parlor pays event partners 60% of ticket sales (minus processing fees) for sales exceeding $300. For sales under $300, the split shifts to 50/50.
I agree that Story Parlor may display a “pre-show slideshow” before the event programming begins, and that I will include a 5-minute intermission at the center of the show.
I will be available to help with set-up and breakdown of the facility, leaving it in excellent condition for the next community member’s use.
I will take responsibility for distributing some form of compensation to any participating artists/performers involved in this event/series.
I (or someone I identify on my behalf) will act as the event(s) host and emcee, while also serving as an ambassador of Story Parlor’s mission. Story Parlor is permitted to make pre-show announcements.
I understand that Story Parlor may capture audio, video, and/or photographs to use at their discretion.
This event/series will not include hate speech, racial slurs, or bigoted material; religious or anti-religious themes; or political messaging/fundraising of any kind.
