ARTIST & Event GUIDELINES

We are so honored to be welcoming you to the Story Parlor stage. Dedicated to cultivating an environment that nurtures creative expression and storytelling through all art forms, Story Parlor is unwavering in its investigation of identity, culture, and humanity. As such, we’ve crafted a few guidelines to ensure we present program that is inclusive, inspirational, and true to our mission, along with (hopefully) most everything you’ll need to know about the cadence of the space and event.

About your piece….

• Please share an original piece that has been inspired by your own personal story in some way, shape, or form. (And feel free to talk about its origins in your performance!)

• Your piece may not include hate speech, racial slurs, or bigoted material; further, someone else’s identity should never be used as a punchline.

• We kindly ask artists to refrain from sharing pieces solely focused on religious or anti-religious themes; or political messaging/fundraising. (Briefly mentioning/alluding to religion or politics is okay so long as it’s done respectfully.)

• If your piece requires some sort of trigger warning, please take the initiative to either preface this before sharing, or request for us to do so on your behalf. (Note: This includes bright flashing lights, whether live or projected on the screen, to protect guests who may be subject to epileptic episodes.)

• Keep to your time limit! Practice in advance staying within the range of 10-15 minutes; we will not be providing time cues.

About the event…

• Each act receives a $35 stipend, as well as one drink ticket per artist.

• We are a small space with a very limited capacity. As such, we can only offer a comp ticket to you, the artist, and not to any additional guests.

• We will have a small table available to display merchandise/promo materials shared amongst the participating artists. If you would like to bring something to sell, please be sure have a way to accept payment.

Marketing and promotion…

• We’ll be marketing your attendance to our newsletter of 1500 subscribers, as well as social media platforms with a comparable number of followers, so please share your bio and photo so we can get it up on our event page. (FYI, occasionally, we hold off on posting artist bios to do one big artist announcement once all are confirmed.)

• Please spread the word about your performance with any friends and family you know would like to attend! We recommend sharing the event details sooner than later as our Story Parlor produced events have the tendency to sell out in advance.

• Coming in 2023… We are thrilled to be launching a weekly “Story Parlor Hour” radio series on WPVM 103.7 on Sundays at 2pm, and will be working to involve all participating artists who are interested to come chat about their work, creative process, and what they’ll be sharing at the upcoming event.

Tech & A/V…

• For sound equipment, we have a Bose S1 Speaker and two Shure mics (a 48 and 58) available for use. There will also be a music stand on stage if needed. Let us know if you will be bringing your own sound equipment so we can plan accordingly, as we capture audio for all events.

• For those incorporating a screening of some sort, we have an ultra short throw projector and simply request you email us your file(s) a week in advance of the event.

• All events will offer a sound-check from 6:15-6:50pm on the evening of the event for any artists who would like one.
