  • Story Parlor 227 Haywood Road Asheville, NC 28803 USA (map)

SPRING CLASSES START APRIL 13

Spanish (ages 3-5)* | Thursdays, April 13-June 1 from 4:45-5:30pm

Free Demo | March 30 from 4:45-5:30pm

Join Myla Birdie for a bilingual celebration in each class! This semester is about learning 10-20 new words per class that relate to making new friends and preparing for Myla's big birthday party. Children learn through music, movement, and puppetry!

Classes end with a bubble dance party extravaganza. Each newly enrolled family receives materials to practice at home including: a plush mini Myla Birdie puppet, one bilingual ebook per month reflecting themes from class, an album download of the 10 best original songs from class, and bilingual vocabulary sheets highlighting keywords from the curriculum.

(Note: Enrolled families who are returning from a previous series of Myla classes receive ebooks and vocabulary sheets only.) All teachers are trained and certified in the Bilingual Birdies methodology and use intruments and props in class to make learning fun and engaging for all ages. Families should expect to sing and dance while they learn new words, bond with their children, and connect with other budding bilingual families! Sign up at www.bilingualbirdies.com/asheville

*Age Note: We are trying to split classes into specific age ranges for more focused attention, but if another class time fits better with your schedule, please email bilingualbirdiesasheville@gmail.com to inquire about enrollment possibilities.

  • Dr. Šara Stranovsky is a trilingual professional singer, dancer, educator, and doctor of Culture and Performance Studies. She helped to build Bilingual Birdies in New York City and was a teacher and administrator for the company for many years in New York City while also performing professionally in Broadway and off-broadway performances. When she moved to Asheville, she couldn't find any classes for her toddler that were live music based or language learning based, so she launched Bilingual Birdies Asheville. She cannot wait to keep building the bilingual community here in Asheville from the French (and Portuguese) perspectives, and Spanish, through her wonderful Venezuelan colleague, Daniela.

Daniela Risquez is a singer, early childhood educator specializing in outdoor ed, and a children's book illustrator from Caracas Venezuela. She loves working with kids and performs as a professional singer when she is not making all the kiddos giggle!

  • Bilingual Birdies is an early childhood bilingual education program for children birth through age six and the adults who love them! Founded in New York City in 2006, we are the first to combine music, movement, and puppetry in a play-based curriculum to engage children as they increase their vocabulary and celebrate diversity in every class! Parent materials are provided for all enrolled families to keep the learning process going outside of class. We currently teach thousands of children in 25 cities across the US, Canada, Australia, Latin America, and the Middle East through our teacher certification program. Our hope is that future generations will learn that bilingualism is a path to greater opportunity, increased compassion for others, and a way to grow into a more open-minded adult. Day by day we’re igniting a bilingual education movement that all are welcome to join.
