What do you do when you find you're facing an insurmountable pile of unfinished creative work? An entire digital archive of ‘maybes?’

To use an Appalachian metaphor, you pan your dirt for gemstones.

This workshop explores what it means to run creative writing through an objective sieve. It provides a framework for tackling the current pile of unfinished work, as well as addressing the indefinite ‘maybes’ of tomorrow.

Together, we’ll sift our mounds of incomplete material, develop our self-editing skills, readjust our critical lenses, and polish, refine, and complete our precious pieces.

Among peers and in the safety of a validating creative space, writers can anticipate the delight of creative collaboration, the usefulness of constructive feedback, and the thrill of showcasing the rarity and purity of their finest gemstones.

  • This class is for you if:

    • You’re the type to collect things like: untitled Word Docs; stream-of-consciousness journal entries; abstract voice memos; poetic notes on the Notes App; etcetera.

    • You have a piece of writing that you want to complete (i.e. a short story you started in college; a dream you’ve always intended to turn into a poem; a dialogue scene that you can’t seem to “get right,” etc.).

    • You have some experience and comfort with the process of creative writing.

    • You’re feeling open, determined, and inspired to take a look at your creative work from different perspectives.

    • You’re craving the accountability, connection, and collective energy of a creative group of people.

  • Week 1: Mine & Stratify - Source & Agitate Your Creative Dirt

Week 2: Pan - Separate Dirt From Gemstones

Week 3: Evaluate - Identify Your Gemstones

Week 4: Refine - Purify Your Gemstones (Introduction to Workshop)

Week 5: Polish - Finish Your Gemstones (Workshop Session)

Week 6: Display - Reveal Your Gemstones - (Writer’s Showcase)
