What is an Origin Story? They are stories of how we came to be who we are and include elements of loss, betrayal, hardship and survival—as well as love, transcendence and the brilliance of the human heart. They typically include tales of family tragedy, plot twists, quirky spins with odd outcomes and hilarious truth-telling of secrets long well kept. Origin Stories help us make sense of who we are and connect those dots, often stirring the pot for new growth and self-emergence. When we hear one person's origin story, it helps us wonder about our own.
Join Patti Elledge and her talented colleagues, Grace Scarbrough and Mehera Kleiner, for an evening of origin stories from the heart. Patti will share her own Origin Story, as well as serve as Emcee for the evening's stories, offering the audience chances to reflect with the roving mic. You'll also be invited to participate in Greek Chorus moments with sound effects and scripted intonements, bringing drama, hilarity, and pathos to the stories.
Audience participation is optional and entirely up to each person, though your heart and mind may be taken captive—leading you to dwell upon your own origin story!
Meet the Storytellers….

Patti Elledge is a long-in-the-seat therapist specializing in trauma, therefore a witness to stories of extreme harm as well as exquisite beauty and grace, ie all things human. She likes to think of herself as a cave dweller, a spelunker of sorts, digging around in the dark with a person, all the while noticing shimmering light from hidden crevices and divine fragrances emanating from the very essence of the human soul. Leaning into her own oddness and peculiarities, Patti's Irreverent Inner Child is ready to tell all sorts of tales about growing up on the Plains of Oklahoma where the truth was often stranger than fiction.

Mehera Kleiner is an artist in every form and sees life as a creative act. She is also a Joy Practitioner who waters the gardens of joy in her and her client's lives, while pulling out the non-edible weeds, to make room for flowers to bloom. The book of Mehera's life is mundane, tragic, heroic and profound. But most importantly, it's a love story which gets better with every page. She currently lives in West Asheville, alone with cats, which was her idea of hell but has found that it's actually heaven.

Grace Scarbrough is a mother, bereaved parent, step parent, bodyworker, somatic experiencing practitioner and an improviser, writer, and a person who loves making art. She has nurtured the soft, tender and frightened parts in others for decades, touching bodies, minds and spirits. Grace loves laughing heartily at herself and is often tickled by the beautiful, painful, weird and gobsmacking paradoxes of Life on Planet Earth. She is excited to bring out her quirky, creative and eccentric parts for an evening of collaborative Origin Stories. Who knows what we will discover?! She invites us to reflect on the most basic question of human existence: who am I and where did I come from?
