To celebrate the start of a new season – one of emerging pale greens, clear mornings, and the sudden breaking of buds – we’ve gathered four songwriters from across our mountain region (Hannah Kaminer, Alex Krug, Thomas Kozak, and Maddie McCullough) to perform their original songs that meditate on this transitional time of waking blooms. Join us for an evening of vernal tunes, explorations of songcraft, and the opportunity to gather as a community to welcome in the spring.

  • Hannah is an artist and singer-songwriter writing songs about love, loss, and home. Raised in small towns in Western North Carolina, she fuses echoes of Appalachian and country traditions with wistful, Americana-style songwriting.

She has released three studio albums: Acre by Acre (2015), Heavy Magnolias (2018) which was co-produced with GRAMMY-winning engineer Julian Dreyer, and Heavy on the Vine (2024) which she produced with her band, The Wistfuls.

  • Alex’s crooning, hollering and singing can be heard filtering through the trees as it climbs out of the cove and travels up the hillside.  A psychedelic shimmer, hallucinatory wrinkle that is hard to shake. Featured Video from Garden & Gun & Linktree to music and socials

  • A singer-songwriter and storyteller based in Asheville, NC, Thomas weaves mythology, spirituality, and poetry into his songs and delivers them with a dark voice and rhythmic finger-picking. His latest EP, “Our Lady of Embers,” tells the story of divining a thread of hope across these southern mountains. His latest video release is his version of the traditional Appalachian ballad “Saro.”

More can be found at www.kozakandthepoets.com or on social media (Facebook ; Instagram) or under “Thomas Kozak” on all streaming platforms.

  • Maddie is a singer-songwriter based out of Maryville, Tennessee. Raised in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains, Maddie’s music is heavily inspired by the history and music of her home in Southern Appalachia. Maddie’s Website & Music on Bandcamp
