  • The Big Beautiful Crankie Project is a troupe of humans who wanted to share their unique strengths through a collaborative storytelling project. Our Crankie Crew aims to reconnect to what we have lost in our lives and rediscover what there is to be found. We came together to lean into our strengths and styles to share the same story. Through art, music, food and dance, we hope to nourish the souls of our community.

Our goal is to take the "Crankie" style of storytelling to epic proportions. This production includes acting, dancing, audience interaction, singing, musical accompaniment, and of course, beautiful artwork and storytelling. It is a tale about finding connection in a lonely and tangled world. We will be working at the 821 Residency on Haywood throughout February. Come on by and check out the project!

  • We love exploring creative styles and leaning into the wide variety that comes with collaboration. We want to share our story about interconnectedness and relationships we have that are often within reach. The Big Beautiful Crankie Project is a group of 12+ local Asheville artists that have come together to write, create and share a collective story. The groupe includes (in no particular order) Molly Scanga, Emily Swan, Sophie Swan, Matt Dhillon, Katherine Saul, Millie Smith, Colin Buxton, Cade Yanowski, Aaron Stone, Eric Cuffney, Alice Bradley, Zak Houston, Claire Scanga, Phil Presnell, Patrick Canary and all of those who supported us through story editing, song writing, supplies and the early stages of our brainstorm.

  • The Residency at 821 is a space for emerging and established artists in all fields who are looking for a place away from their usual environment to create art and share it with the public. Located on Haywood Road area in West Asheville, NC, our residency offers residencies at no charge for up to 28 days at a time. We only have one artist in the space at a time, so residents can create freely however they wish. Our goal is to foster an environment that allows each artist to reflect, create, and share. Collaborations between artists are welcome as well. The public is welcome to join us at any of the shows put on by each artist in residence.
