In this five-session workshop we will explore our unique stories and narratives as we discover the many visible and invisible ways we all experience othering and belonging, and use this awareness to build more authentic relationships. This offering is designed for anyone who desires to nurture a greater sense of belonging in an increasingly polarized world.
Through immersive activities that help us unearth our diverse and relatable human experiences, we will walk away with a deep sense of gratitude from being seen and seeing others in new and profound ways.

Ramin Gillett, the son of an Iranian-Iraqi mother and American father, grew up in Cameroon, West Africa. As an adult he has spent time in the United States, Tanzania, Rwanda, Botswana, South Korea, and Brazil. Ramin is a published author and poet. His work illuminates what it means to be alive in an age of intensifying polarization and xenophobia.

Shunyu Huang 黃順玉, martial artist, photographer, culture educator and poet, born and raised in the coastal city Zhuhai in southern China.
Shunyu seeks to connect people through weaving our unique yet common stories and culture into a fabric. A frequent lecturer at UNCA, AB-TECH to share Chinese culture through literature, tea and calligraphy.
In the summer of 2023, She became the first Chinese artist-in-resident at Story Parlor, where she gathered the community to share their memory through the five senses.
In January 2024, Shunyu created the first Asian Culture Festival in Asheville. She believes that in the art that we manifest and share, we can see the humanity that we have in common, despite our differences.
