Join this cozy evening of auditory massage from three talented individuals who build original musical paintings, live, from the ground up: Eli Kahn, Madelyn Ilana, and balm. They will also be celebrating the completion of balm.’s first e.p., “how is your heart?”

About the Artists…

  • balm. is the solo project of Rachel Waterhouse, frontwoman and songwriter for Sister Ivy. The project was born of a broken hand on a cross-country solo tour. Due to the injury, Rachel played a few shows with her trusty RC-50…one handed. Surprised to find that theoretically simple but lushly layered soundscapes could make for a very soothing and worthwhile listening experience, Rachel began to give her loop based songwriting more weight and energy and thus, balm. was born.

“how is your heart?” is set to be Rachel’s first release under the moniker of balm. This 7 song E.P. is recklessly emotive and expertly expressed to demonstrate heartbreak, healing, and hope in the human experience. “how is your heart?” is both purge and poultice for lonely romantics ready to give up their ghosts, for shy dreamers ready to step into the waking world, for any who have loved and lost, and for all who are learning how to truly be at home within themselves.

  • Based in Asheville, North Carolina, Madelyn Ilana is a songwriter, ambient dream folk composer, violinist, music teacher, and healing arts practitioner.

Madelyn's music is for healing and from healing, therefore sometimes soothing and sometimes cathartic. Her live performances weave together original songs, improvisational violin playing, ambient looped drone music, hip-hop pieces, and spontaneous spoken word.

Madelyn's second studio album, Coming Into the Light was released in the Summer of 2022. You can listen anywhere you stream music digitally.

  • Eli Kahn is a guitarist, producer, & improviser from South Bend, IN, now living in Asheville, NC. After graduating from Indiana University of South Bend in 2010 with degrees in both classical guitar performance & music theory, he transitioned into jazz/fusion & improvisatory music & discovered his love for production.

Performing for over a decade with his original projects such as sobriquet., The B.E.A.T., & After Ourshas helped him hone his craft with layers & composition.

Through the use of looping, effects, & a 7-string hybrid guitar, he is able to paint landscapes of grooving bass lines & melodic guitar parts that work together seamlessly to create a unique blend & sound.
