This workshop is for current and aspiring writers or storytellers of all genres and mediums who are interested in harnessing the power of fear. Exploring beyond the limits of the horror genre and scary stories told around the fire, it will push into the organic roots of what makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck. The goals of this class will be to learn a greater understanding of the audience’s desire to be made afraid, the power of it as a story telling tool, and how to deliver that in a way that feels authentic, alive, and fresh. Perfect for writers looking to hone their horror craft or hoping to step into the horror genre, it will also serve all artists who want to better understand the craft of building tension, terror, and dread in any story.
Participants should expect to engage with others, spend time outside of class on creative writing assignments and research, and to engage in various forms of interactive and individual creative play. The workshop is designed for adult participants prepared to delve into art-driven materials, discussions, and subject matters that are dark, violent, explicit, and taboo; Viewer discretion is advised…..
